
F-1 USA Student Visa - List of Documents to carry for Indians
If you reading this then Congratulations! You have already secured your admit from US universities. We have decided to share this very important information regarding which documents to carry for your F-1 visa interview. make sure you read till the last to point to ensure you do not miss out on any document for your interview.
1. Document Checklist
a. Admission letter, !-20 and Passport (should preferably have an expiry date not before 7-8 months from the date of interview)
b. DS-160 confirmation slip along with SEVIS Fee – I901 payment receipt: Usually paid before you submit your DS-160
c. Proof for Machine Readable Visa payment: Usually paid after you file DS-160 You can carry the transaction proof from your bank or anything else which shows that you paid it.
d. Latest photograph (make sure the photograph is clear and has proper white background)
e. Academic Documents:
(i) Transcripts – Class 10th, 12th and UG (if applicable)
(ii) Degree Certificates
(iii) Test Score Proofs – GRE/GMAT/TOEFL/IELTS etc.
f. Interview confirmation slip: Usually received after you successfully book an interview appointment slot
g. Proof of Funds: It is good to show 40% more funds than what is mentioned in I20.
(i) Bank Balance (should be maintained for at least 3-4 weeks before the visa appointment) – bank balance certificate should be preferably attested by the bank, carry bank statement
(ii) Fixed Deposits Receipt – Preferably Attested by the Bank
(iii) Provident Fund - This should be an official document from the financial institution that manages your provident fund. It should include details such as your name, account number, current balance
(iv) Loan Sanction Letter
(v) Scholarship Proof
(vi) CA Certificate – Getting this is less preferred because of the costs attached
(vii) Sponsorship Letter (in case someone else is sponsoring you) – signed affidavit issued by notary officer
(viii) Income tax Return – past 3 years and Salary Slips from you or your sponsors
h. Any document that proves you might return to India, this could be anything to prove your ties to the country
(i) Employment or Job Offer Letter: If you have a job offer lined up in India after completing your studies, providing an employment letter from your prospective employer can demonstrate your intention to return.
(ii) Property Ownership Documents: Documents such as property deeds, land titles, or rental agreements can show your strong ties to your home country.
(iii) Family Ties: Any documents that prove you have immediate family members residing in India, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, can demonstrate your connections to your home country.
i. Proof of Employment – Offer Letter / Salary Slips of the last month salary shall suffice
