- Undergraduate coursework equivalent to UWM's Biological Sciences major
- Coursework in plant or animal science, including cellular and molecular biology or genetics, organismal biology, and ecology
- Additional coursework in chemistry (organic or biochemistry)
- Mathematical preparation including at least one course in calculus, statistics, or biometry
- At least one year of physics strongly encouraged
- Optional submission of official scores from GRE for Thesis Track applicants
